On Friday’s Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez explained why Vince McMahon decided to scrap the John Cena vs. Undertaker match for WrestleMania 33, saying that the WWE chairman has a different idea for both men.
Later on Friday, Dave Meltzer, also of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, explained that Vince McMahon is thinking long-term regarding Undertaker’s WrestleMania 33 opponent, which is why he’s not doing the long rumored Taker vs. Cena match this year.

Vince McMahon’s long-term vision could, and most likely will include Roman Reigns, who, according to Meltzer, could end up being Undertaker’s opponent on April 2.
“So here’s the situation with WrestleMania: there’s three matches that are already a done deal, which are Bill Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar, Shaquille O’Neal vs. Big Show, and Seth Rollins vs. Triple H. Those three are pretty much locked. John Cena vs. Undertaker is probable, but it’s not locked. I’m guessing Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman, although there’s very much talk about Roman Reigns vs. Undertaker as well. So that’s a possibility.”
There’s also a small chance that we’ll see Undertaker take on Finn Balor at WrestleMania 33, which is a match that The Demon King badly wants to have.
