This news isn’t unexpected, but it’s now official. The future WWE Hall of Famer Sting will is retiring from the neck issues he sustained in the match with Seth Rollins at last year’s Night of Champions PPV.
Many within the industry and the WWE Universe suspected that Sting would be done in the ring after he was announced as the first inductee into the 2016 WWE Hall of Fame class.
However, it’s being reported by TMZSports.com and several other sources that Sting had seen many doctors since last Septemeber when the injury occurred, and all the doctors agree that his neck is too much of a risk to his overall health ever to step back into the ring.
After the recent events with Daniel Bryan, “The Icon” decided it was time to hang up the boots in Cooperstown rather than go through long term recovery and fight the decision.
It’s also very good timing because his Hall of Fame induction is just over two weeks away and with Ric Flair inducting him, it’s the perfect time to retire formally during his speech the night before Wrestlemania 32.
Unlike Daniel Bryan, Sting is in his mid-fifties. He will be remembered as one of the most influential and accomplished wrestlers of all time. He was also able to check off Wrestlemania before he retired, so his wrestling career is a happy one that will end in a few short weeks.
Do you regret that we never got to see Sting vs. The Undertaker?
