After losing his match at “Summerslam,” to AJ Styles, John Cena took off his armband and left it in the ring as he left the Barclays Center. Then, Cena didn’t show on WWE programming at all last week.
Naturally, that led to a lot of speculation about his future in WWE, especially considering it has been reported that he will be taking a hiatus to film the second season of “American Grit” for the FOX Network this fall.
According to a report from Wrestlinginc.com, John Cena isn’t going anywhere yet. Apparently, the filming for “American Grit” doesn’t start until mid-October, so Cena will remain on WWE programming until then.
The most recent rumor on Cena’s next feud claimed he’d be continuing his feud with AJ Styles, but the latter is due to face Dean Ambrose at “Backlash” for the WWE Championship.
Since “Backlash” is less than two weeks away, Cena vs. Styles may continue after Ambrose vs. Styles, but the greater question is if The Phenomenal One will be the WWE Champion in a few weeks.
It would be interesting booking for WWE to give AJ Styles a huge win over John Cena just to put over Ambrose as WWE Champion. This week’s SmackDown should make the Cena situation more clear.
