Netflix is a powerhouse of media and television. The ability to stream and share programming is unheard of in today’s market, and there are several different industries that it has broken into, and pro wrestling could be the next.
A lot of wrestling fans have been saying, “Lucha Underground should come to Netflix” without realizing all the hoopla that would take to pull off, but now that may become a reality.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Lucha Underground is said to be very close to a deal with Netflix.
The deal would only secure the first season of the show on Netflix because of the recent deal with iTunes and the promotion’s second season. n that Netflix would only get the first season of the show, but the deal with iTunes would still contain the second season. This is usually the case, as television shows don’t usually hit Netflix until well after the season ends.
However, that isn’t really an issue since Netflix rarely has the most up to date episodes of many popular shows until some time has passed.
Lucha Underground’s fanbase is expected to expand a great deal since the El Rey is still only available in roughly forty million homes and only some of those people are watching the show every week.
Netflix will produce a lot of word of mouth and the third season of Lucha Underground will keep the promotion going and then who knows where the promotion will be in a year.
