They’ve still got it. Titles are among the most important part of any wrestling promotion as they identify the top stars of the company. Fans understand the importance of a wrestler wearing a championship belt and it can be a big moment when a wrestler wins a title. It can be an even bigger moment when a wrestler is the inaugural champion, which is what WWE is looking at again.

WWE has been highlighting the Intercontinental Title as part of a celebration of the title turning 45 years old this month. The WWE Vault YouTube account has uploaded a video looking at the original Intercontinental Title belt held by inaugural champion Pat Patterson in 1979. The video also discusses the fictitious tournament which saw the creation of the title. Part of the belt is missing, having been broken off over the years.

Opinion: The more I see of this kind of thing, the more amazing the WWE archives seem to be. Just the fact that they can whip out a 45 year old title is impressive enough, but to throw in some cool footage of the belt being used makes it even better. It would be so much fun to be able to look through some of this stuff, but for now the videos are about all we get.
