There it is. Titles are some of the most important things in all of wrestling, as a wrestler holding a title can be a game changer for their career. While there are several titles active today, they all have one thing in common: at some point, someone became the first champion. That can be quite the honor and now we are going to see someone else get to do it again.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: That’s One: WWE Championship Match Officially Set For Saturday Night’s Main Event
In a video shown on social media, WWE has officially announced the introduction of the Women’s Intercontinental Title. Raw General Manager Adam Pearce announced the title before this week’s Monday Night Raw went on the air, saying that a tournament to crown the first champion will begin next week. This comes as SmackDown has started a tournament to crown the inaugural Women’s United States Champion.
This is a big one. Check out the announcement, plus some of the male counterpart:
Opinion: This is hardly a surprise as it seemed likely as soon as the Women’s United States Title was introduced. The good thing is that WWE has the women’s division to make this work and there are certainly options for the inaugural champion. I could absolutely see the first champion being crowned at Saturday Night’s Main Event, right alongside the SmackDown counterpart.
