That’s not a bad present. The Women’s Revolution really is something you don’t see too often in wrestling. What started as little more than a catchphrase has taken over a large part of WWE and turned into something really special. The modern women’s roster has taken the women to levels that no one would have believed possible before. They’ve come a long way down the road, but what about the ones who came before?
There’s one in particular worth mentioning. Check out this awesome Trish Stratus highlight reel:
In honor of her birthday earlier in the week, WWE has posted a new video looking at all seven of Stratus’ Women’s Title victories in the company. Stratus won the title seven times over the course of her career, starting at Survivor Series 2001 and the last coming at Survivor Series 2007 in what was then her retirement match. The seven reigns are tied for the most in the history of the company.
Opinion: I know the heights that Stratus reached might not be up to the standards of what today’s women are doing, but at the time, Stratus was one of the best female wrestlers the company had ever seen. She had charisma, talking ability and in-ring work, which towered over almost everyone else around her at the time. More importantly though, she was a huge influence on so many of the modern women, making her comebacks against them all the more interesting.
What did you think of Stratus? Could she ever win the title again? Let us know in the comments below.
