A special cameo. There have been almost countless wrestlers throughout WWE’s history but at some point, all of them have to leave. This is not always permanent though, as some of them will come back for another appearance later on. That can make for either a special moment or at least a surprise, which is what we saw this week as a former star made an unexpected appearance.

This week’s NXT featured the in-ring debut of Giulia. Following her win, Giulia was seen backstage in NXT General Manager Ava’s office, where she was accompanied by former WWE Superstar Funaki. With Funaki serving as translator, Giulia spoke to Ava before speaking to Roxanne Perez herself. There is no word on if Funaki will be making regular appearances. He last wrestled for WWE in 2010 but has made appearances since, including serving in a similar role for Hideo Itami in NXT in 2014.

That was a surprise. Check out Funaki’s appearance, plus his time in WWE:

Opinion: This is one of those things that makes for a nice cameo, as Funaki is someone who longtime fans will remember. It’s not likely he will be doing this full time or even part time, but it was cool to see him once. Bringing him in is a nice way to go rather than picking someone that fans will not recognize as it is a fun enough bonus for the segment without taking the focus off of the stars.
