It’s long overdue. Wrestling has a strange reputation when it comes to being a sport. While it is certainly an athletic endeavor, the pre-arranged nature of the business changes its status. However, there are wrestlers who have become such icons that they overcome the problem of being associated with wrestling. That status was on display this week in a very important way.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: One Of The Big Ones: Current AEW Champion Reportedly Injured
Bret Hart was awarded a star on Canada’s Walk Of Fame in Toronto, Ontario, Canada this week. Hart had previously been announced for the honor as part of the class of 2021 but the ceremony was postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Hart commented on the induction, with transcription courtesy of Post Wrestling:
“I just want to say how special it was for me to be a wrestling hero or a TV hero for so many Canadians across the country. I’ve had such a great journey and such a great ride and I’m really proud of my career. I’ve always been especially proud of being from Canada and spreading my name and the goodwill of Canada across the world. I’d like to think that I showed everybody that Canadians can be the best there is, the best there was, the best there ever will be.”

It was a cool moment. Check out Hart’s induction, plus some of his time in the ring:
Opinion: This is one of those cool moments that is long overdue. Hart is one of the most famous Canadian wrestlers of all time and one of the biggest in history from anywhere. It is great to see him getting to do something like this and Hart seemed honored by the moment. If nothing else, it is great to see wrestling getting this kind of recognition, which does not happen very often.
