Hand it over. There are all kinds of titles in wrestling and many of them are contested under traditional rules. Every so often though, you will see something unique as a title has its own set of rules and stipulations. Those titles are still incredibly valuable and it can be a big moment for a wrestler to win one of them. That was the situation again as an up and coming star picked up some gold.

The main event of this week’s NXT saw Tony D’Angelo defeat Charlie Dempsey to win the NXT Heritage Cup two falls to one. The win marks D’Angelo’s first singles championship in NXT, where he was previously a two time Tag Team Champion. Dempsey had been defending under the No Catch Clause, meaning any member of his No Quarter Catch Crew could defend the Cup.

Opinion: This is something that D’Angelo has been needing to do for a long time and hopefully he gets to have a nice reign. D’Angelo has shown all kinds of potential throughout his NXT run and while he has had some tag team success, the singles title had to come sooner or later. I’m interested in seeing what he can do as champion, though the Family vs. the No Quarter Catch Crew seems likely to continue for a good while.
