It’s finished. There have been all kinds of stories taking place in WWE over the last few years but the biggest of them all might be Cody Rhodes completing the story. The story took off in the way that it did at least partially because of how the connection Rhodes had to his father. It was due to a special moment back in the 1970s and now we are seeing another special moment.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: It’s Over: AEW Star Loses Title At International Event
WWE has posted a video from after this week’s SmackDown went off the air, featuring WWE Champion Cody Rhodes addressing the crowd. Rhodes talked about his father Dusty coming to Madison Square Garden, the location of this week’s show, and defeating the WWE Champion but not winning the championship. Cody then brought out the very belt that Dusty held up in 1977 and held it up on the turnbuckle just as Dusty did. The photo of Dusty holding up the title is what started Cody’s story, which he finished at WrestleMania 40.
This is amazing. Check out the video plus Cody’s story:
Opinion: One of the reasons that the story worked was because people could relate to the idea of wanting to honor your father’s memory. That is the kind of thing that fans want to see Cody do for them and then live vicariously through him, which is what they were trying for here. I smiled quite a bit at this and that is exactly the point of this entire thing, which worked very well.
