That’s quite the downside. Last month, Daniel Bryan shocked the wrestling world by turning heel for the first time in several years. Soon after that he officially ended the YES Movement and began ripping into the fans every chance he had. This didn’t sit well with a lot of the audience, and it turns out that they are showing their displeasure in another way, which has some bigger consequences.
According to Brad Shepard on the Oh, You Didn’t Know podcast, since his heel turn, Bryan’s merchandise sales have taken a huge hit, to the point where they barely exist anymore. Bryan’s YES shirts were huge sellers for WWE and are still available on WWE’s official shop, but with Bryan declaring the YES Movement dead, the shirt sales have gone down drastically. There is new merchandise reflecting Bryan’s new character.
You wouldn’t want to cheer this guy? Check out this awesome, though less financially lucrative style promo from Bryan:
Opinion: I’m not sure how much this affects Bryan’s bottom line as I have no idea how his financial situation is, but at the same time, Bryan is in an awesome place at the moment. If fans don’t want to cheer someone who was one of the most popular names on the roster just a few weeks ago, he’s doing something right. Well done Bryan, and hopefully he isn’t hurt by something like this.
