According to SI.com, Anthem is currently hemorrhaging funds and is ready to sell the company. There are several details to this though, including the fact that Jeff Jarrett, who is on an indefinite leave of absence as Chief Creative Officer, still owns the Global Force Wrestling name. Therefore, Anthem could only sell Impact Wrestling.
The initial merger was only announced two months ago. Remember this?
There’s a fairly short list of potential buyers, but WWE would be near the top of the list due to the value of the company’s tape library. There is also the option of Anthem selling to either Ring of Honor or Billy Corgan, who tried to purchase the company last year. At the moment though, WWE would of course have the most money to spend if it’s interested.
Opinion: I know we talk about this almost every few months but there seems to be a reason for it: the company doesn’t make money and doesn’t seem to have for the better part of its existence. They’ve been around for over fifteen years now and we’re still trying to figure out who should finance the company. At this point, the ownership isn’t going to matter as the company just isn’t working. Odds are they’ll survive again and we’ll do this again in a few months as the company continues to just exist instead of ever growing.
