He did it (kind of)! Titles are quite a few things in wrestling, but one of the most important roles they play is identifying some of the most important wrestlers around. More often than not, a champion is going to be one of the featured players in a company and if someone holds a title for a long time, the reign can mean that much more. Now someone is technically the longest reigning champion in a title’s history.

As of Saturday, Wes Lee has officially set the record for longest North American Title reign in history. However, there is a caveat as Velveteen Dream technically held the title for 231 days, but the title change was taped in advance, meaning the time from his title win aired on television to the time he lost the title, only 209 days passed. For Lee to have the undisputed record, he must hold the title until June 10. Lee is scheduled to defend the title against Tyler Bate and Joe Gacy at Battleground on May 28.

Opinion: This is one of those weird things that only happens in wrestling and now we get to wait and see if Lee can make it another three weeks or so to wrap up the real record. Lee has done some great things with the title and has been one of the most prominent champions the title has ever seen. Now just finish the job and rewrite the record book before giving him something bigger to do.
