And now for the celebration. Jinder Mahal won the Smackdown World Title this past Sunday at “Backlash 2017” in one heck of an upset. As you might expect, this led to a huge amount of media coverage in India, even though Mahal was born and raised in Canada and is only of Indian descent. Another interview came out today.
Mahal spoke with Indianexpress.com and talked about what the title change meant, especially for the people of India. Here are some highlights:
On What The Title Win Means
And On What His Physical Transformation Did For Him
”The physical transformation had started before I came back to WWE. Two months before I resigned with WWE I decided just out of nowhere that I will start dieting, to work on my body and train harder. I started focussing more. Two months later WWE called me back to resign. That was not a co-incidence but the universe telling me that I am ready.”

Opinion: You knew Mahal was going to get this kind of attention and that’s exactly what they were going for by giving him the title. Mahal is going to be a big deal in his home country and that’s good for WWE. I doubt the title reign lasts long but there’s nothing wrong with that, at least at the moment.
How long do you think Mahal holds the title? Who do you think takes it from him? Let us know in the comments below.
