That’s why. There are all kinds of wrestling promotions in the world and some of them do not get along that well. Some of them are going to be fighting over the same group of fans and do not want to give another promotion any kind of advantage in such a battle. That can lead to some unique situations and we saw one of those this week as some international wrestling politics were at play.

This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite featured an opening match between Maxwell Jacob Friedman and Rush, which aired commercial free. According to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Radio, the likely case is that the match took place because Rush will not be allowed to work on the upcoming Forbidden Door show. Dave Meltzer said that CMLL, who will have wrestlers at Forbidden Door, would not be happy if Rush, a former AAA wrestler, was on the show.

Opinion: That would certainly make sense as CMLL, or any international wrestling promotion for that matter, can have some unique ideas and rules about things like this. It’s not entirely fair to Rush but that is the way things are going to go no matter what. I’m not sure if AEW should bother with the whole thing, but that is the way Forbidden Door works and it is something they have to deal with for the time being.
