He's In: Update On WWE's Plans For Sami Zayn Going Forward

Stick to the plan. We are coming up on WrestleMania 39 and the show’s main event has already been set. After winning the men’s Royal Rumble, Cody Rhodes became the new #1 contender to Roman Reigns. Their title match has officially been set up, but there is a detail involving someone else on the roster. One other wrestler is rather popular at the moment, but WWE has made up its mind.

The angle at the end of the Royal Rumble saw Sami Zayn turn on the Bloodline by attacking Reigns with a chair. The Bloodline then attacked Zayn to end the show. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the plan is for Zayn to challenge Reigns at Elimination Chamber, which has “been the plan all along”. WWE reportedly does not see Zayn as the face of the company, while Rhodes is seen as someone who could potentially headline WrestleMania. There is nothing to suggest that any changes will be made to the shows’ main events.

Opinion: This is an interesting situation as Zayn is the hottest thing in WWE, but Rhodes has been deemed the chosen one for a long time now. While I can see the desire to have Zayn be the one, Rhodes has several of the tools that WWE would be looking for in their next big star. It’s a very tricky situation, and hopefully WWE has something for Zayn at WrestleMania, because he has earned it.
