Does that make it better? There are all kinds of ways to get fans to boo wrestlers, some of which are more effective than others. You can see some wrestlers putting together some kind of new character who can do a variety of different things, but ultimately it has to connect with the fans. One prominent wrestler is trying something new and getting a response, though things are a bit odd.

In recent weeks, Chris Jericho has been speaking to fans in a condescending way while also offering to educate young wrestlers, some of whom are not interested in his help. According to Fightful Select, Jericho was anticipating the backlash from the angle, including the negative chants such as “please retire” and “go home Jericho”. It is not clear if Jericho knew that the terms “rarefied air” and “the Learning Tree” had been recently used in MLW and TNA respectively. It is also said that the alterations Jericho made to the FTW Title were not expected, even by Taz, who invented the physical belt.

Opinion: I get the thinking behind the character, but I’m not sure if having the fans tell you to retire is the best reaction. Just because Jericho anticipated the reactions doesn’t make it a positive overall. Maybe this will wind up going a bit better, but it is off to something of a negative start, which has been the case for Jericho multiple times with things he has done in recent months.
