WWE has announced that Saturday Night’s Main Event will return on December 14, airing live on NBC. The show will air from the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island, New York, the location of the show’s first episode back in 1985. This is the first quarterly special to air on NBC over the next five years as part of WWE’s new domestic media rights deal with NBC Universal. Saturday Night’s Main Event last aired in 2008.
The show has been a major deal. Check out what has happened over the years:
Opinion: This is going to depend on how much WWE makes it matter. At the end of the day, the revival of Saturday Night’s Main Event in the mid 2000s did not work because the shows did not feel important. You’re only going to get so far when you have seven hours of high level WWE programming airing every single week on television. Saturday Night’s Main Event can work, but WWE has to put in the effort.
