Brace for impact. Earlier this week on Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live, four huge NXT names made their main roster debuts. With the first appearances of Aleister Black, Ricochet, Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano, it was clear that things were going to be changing down in NXT. A major announcement was promised for Wednesday and now we know what that is.
This week on NXT, it was announced that the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic will be returning. The winners of the tournament will challenge the War Raiders for the Tag Team Titles at Takeover: New York. The tournament has run three times before at different times, though the 2018 edition is the only one that took place around WrestleMania season. There was no major announcement related to the callups, which were only mentioned in a short video package earlier in the show.
One of those callups was in action on Wednesday. Check out Black in a great match from NXT:
Opinion: I’m not sure if I should be disappointed or relieved. The main issue with having WWE intervene with NXT is their lack of a great track record. NXT has worked very well because they’ve figured out their own way of doing things, which has been a great success. I’m not saying things are going to get bad, and the tournament is cool, but it’s not the announcement fans were expecting.
Who do you think wins the tournament? Will NXT be more closely associated with the main roster? Let us know in the comments below.
