Seth Rollins emerged victorious at the end of WWE Stomping Grounds on Sunday, June 23. The Beastslayer retained his Universal Championship in the main event against Baron Corbin, even though the odds were against him. Corbin stacked the deck, but it wasn’t enough to dethrone the champ.
That’s because Baron’s secret weapon, Lacey Evans, was counteracted by Raw Women’s champion Becky Lynch. The Man tapped Evans out in the first match of the night and retained her title in the process. So when Lacey served as Corbin’s special guest referee, she was faced with Lynch, who took her down. WWE’s newest power couple made their presence known and this is likely only the beginning.
Seth and Becky’s relationship has not been kept under wraps, as the two Superstars have been open about it on social media. WWE fans recognized the potential the two have together in Vince McMahon’s company and now it seems WWE is on the same page. So what does this mean moving forward?
The idea of the power couple in WWE typically involves two heels. Edge and Lita are great examples of this and the same of course is true of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. That’s not to say the idea is exclusive to heels however, as John Cena and Nikki Bella, as well as Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella, all operated as babyfaces while publicly acknowledging their relationships on the air.

But all four couples are very different from each other in terms of overall tone. Cena and Bryan were both protagonists and fought alongside their wives in the ring. Both duos made the fans happy and it was more about them having fun, than it was about taking over in the company.
The same was not true of Hunter and Stephanie, or Edge and Lita. Antagonists have their own agendas and most of the time, power is the number one priority. That’s especially true here, as everything the two couples did was about dominating everyone in their path.
Stephanie and Triple H are still rolling along of course and though they’re not currently ruling WWE with an iron fist as they have in the past, that can change at any moment. Will that be the case with Lynch and Rollins?
Seth and Becky are two of the hottest Superstars in WWE today and each one is sitting atop of their respective divisions. Rollins has brought the Universal Championship up to the main event level and many fans would argue that Kofi Kingston’s WWE Championship comes in a distant second. Not only is Rollins perhaps the best wrestler in WWE today, he’s also in the conversation for best in the business.
Lynch’s 2019 began on such an incredible high note that it seemed she would never lose steam. But in the months following her main event win at WrestleMania 35, Lynch cooled off significantly.

However that perception has perhaps changed, as Becky continues to deliver in the ring. She’s getting her second wind and there’s no doubt that she’s proven herself on every level in WWE.
Rollins and Lynch are fun together. They’re popular, they’re funny and fans love them. But if WWE chose to do something different, this feel-good story could turn very bad very quickly. Seth Rollins was one of the most over heels in WWE at one time and Lynch is fully capable of making a successful turn. But will the company eventually go this route?
Heel turns may not be on the horizon for either one and maybe neither one needs to change right now. But there are other avenues of interest here, mostly centering on the duo’s championships. The fact that each one is a champion is a good thing, but it’s not necessary to make this work. In fact, there may be more drama involved when one of them loses a title.
Both Rollins and Lynch fought incredibly hard to win their championships, as well as win respect. The titles mean a great deal to them and that’s been obvious from the beginning. So how will the dynamic between them be affected win a championship disappears? The storytelling possibilities in that angle alone would be enough to garner serious fan interest.

The truth is that the positive of their partnership on TV cannot be denied. Seth’s character has been missing something for quite some time, due to The Shield’s demise. The Hounds of Justice split apart and Rollins was left with his war on Brock Lesnar.
Rollins rose to the occasion as everyone knew he would, but it’s not been the same. Lynch has been so embroiled in her career defining rivalry with Charlotte Flair that she was losing her identity. Becky needed something new and so did Seth.
Now the two have each other and WWE has a new power couple to promote. There’s many different directions the company can take with them and only time will tell just how far they will go as a unit.
Seth and Becky are just now beginning on TV together and it’s unknown what will happen next. But after Stomping Grounds, it’s obvious that the potential is there for them to not only work together, but to succeed together as well.
