WWE Intercontinental Champion Roman Reigns has now responded to the latest allegations of steroid use by jailed steroid dealer Richard Rodriguez, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

As we previously reported yesterday, Reigns was called out by Rodriguez- who had filmed a video this past week claiming Reigns and actors Mark Wahlberg and Josh Duhamel were all clients of his steroid dealing business under the ‘Wellness Fitness Nutrition’ name. It is worth noting Rodriguez mentioned other WWE talent were clients of his but only chose to mention Reigns.

Rodriguez had been arrested when his Miami-based company was raded by the DEA in February of last year following a year-long investigation.

According to the U.S. Attorneys Office, Wellness Fitness Nutrition, LLC had a list of at least 50 customers in the Eastern District of New York, with the organization making at least $10 million in distribution sales of the illegal steroids.

The story itself has no serious evidence and was presented by someone in jail only really picked up traction due to prominent mainstream media news sites including New York Daily News and Forbes covered it.

This ultimately prompted Reigns to respond to the accusations, saying the following:

“I have never heard of Richard Rodriguez or Wellness Fitness Nutrition,” Reigns explained. “I learned from the mistake I made nearly two years ago and paid the penalty for it. Since then, I’ve passed 11 tests as part of WWE’s independent drug testing program.”

The mistake Reigns is referring to was his June 2016 30-day suspension for testing positive for Adderall. This being a substance that can aid in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), narcolepsy and as a cognitive and performance enhancing drug.

While Meltzer notes that WWE may have an outdated system for drug detection- not even comparible to the one used in Olympic sports and USADA testing- it is hard to take the word of someone currently in prison and without any proof seriously.

That said, Reigns had a very defined statement- going so far as to say he has never heard of Rodriguez or Wellness Fitness Nutrition. Because of this, if any relation between the two is found, it would contradict what Reigns said. This would likely be cause for an investigation.

On Reigns, Rodriguez had the following to say:

“He is a very down-to-earth person. However a situation involved in which….often times when you’re brought to trial, which I was not, I decided to take a plea. However, they disclose discovery. Discovery is basically the proof they have against you. One thing one part of the discovery is what’s called tried and true statements, which is basically disclosing everybody whom the investigators or people that were investigating you have spoken to with regards to your company, with regards to you, with regards to any other co-defendants that are associated with the indictment. So that’s one of the reasons I disclosed him.”

While it does appear that this connection is fabricated and a clear takedown-attempt on Reigns, if he were to be found wrong he may likely face a 60-day suspension (as he has already had the 30-day). In fact, there is a possibility that if this goes to trial- regardless of whether Reigns had any contact with Rodriguez or not- he may still be suspended.

Reigns is seemingly scheduled to face and defeat Brock Lesnar at ‘WrestleMania 34’ for the WWE Universal Championship in New Orleans. Despite what the outcome of this situation is, Meltzer is of the belief that this match will continue as other top stars like Orton and Lesnar did not have any pushes or positions changed when involved in drug based implications.
