Everyone knows the price of the WWE Network. Between commercials, online advertisements and pop culture infusion, the WWE Universe is well aware that if it wants a piece of the network with all its content, it will cost the price of $9.99 per month in order to unlock all of that.
As the WWE Network has transformed the “a la carte” format of content ingestion and is curbing the industry with “cord-cutters,” it has constantly reinvented itself. For example, the network is now available for free for the first month for any new subscriber, giving them the option to cancel at anytime. There is no longer a commitment, as subscribers can opt-out at a moment’s notice, as opposed to the original six-month commitment when the network launch.
According to PWInsider, WWE officials are contemplating a new tactic – offering all the pay-per-views on the network for just $4.99 for people who are not subscribed full-time to the WWE Network.
The report stems from surveys being issued from WWE for those who cancel their subscriptions. It is unsure if this means all pay-per-views including marquee shows like WrestleMania and “SummerSlam” or just certain ones, but it would reportedly require no outside commitment to the network other than those individual shows. It is also unknown if one would be able to pay in bundle for them, or go on a month-to-month basis, as is the case with traditional pay-per-views.
In fact, a move like this would ultimately render regular pay-per-view coverage of WWE events effectively null, as a popular complaint of those who want to watch the special events is they do not want to pay for the entire network.
Editor’s Note
I see this as a very likely maneuver, but it could hurt them. There are many who pay the full $9.99 per month just for the pay-per-view alone. They are mistaken, but it does still happen.
