NXT has gotten a reputation among many Internet darlings as being the modern day version of Extreme Championship Wrestling. With it’s die-hard fan reputation and intimate venue, many see parallels.
Now, it is possible more will be drawn.
According to PWInsider, WWE may use the ECW Arena for NXT live events in the near future. The dates being thrown around are Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16. These would be among the first NXT live events in the northeast.
The outlet claims WWE has a “hold” on the dates, which is essentially a way of ensuring the dates don’t get booked in the short term as the company evaluates if the gigs are logistically possible to book. This is not confirmation the shows will occur, but more so that WWE is merely looking into the possibility of such.
WWE sources told F4WOnline no dates have been scheduled, though it is possible this is just as nothing has been made official.
The idea behind running the events in Philadelphia, per PWInsider, is because of the “Payback” pay-per-view being held in Maryland. The concept is keeping things centralized in the northeast/Atlantic region, utilizing such as promotion.
Editor’s Note
It’s a smart idea if it comes to pass. The ECW Arena is a bit nicer these days than what it used to be, but it is a holy breeding ground for wrestling.
