Regardless of ones’ respective thoughts towards them, there is no denying one thing – when ESPN touches something, people pay attention. Whether it be LeBron James, Tim Tebow, the Super Bowl or (insert noun here), whatever ESPN covers will be sure to get people talking.
And that’s why former WWE personality and current ESPN anchor Jonathan Coachman is trying to tie in his former employer with the other entertainment juggernaut.
Coachman sent out this tweet Tuesday night, where he encouraged ESPN to get on board with providing coverage for WWE’s marquee summer event, “SummerSlam.”

Coachman is referring to “SportsCenter On The Road,” a special series of episodes typically produced by the popular highlight show that airs from a particular event the company is covering. It is possible to see a live show from the NBA Finals or Little League World Series, for example, while ESPN routinely goes all-out for the Super Bowl as well.
It would not be the first time ESPN and WWE have crossed paths this year, should it come to fruition.
ESPN stuck the jackpot when it had the exclusive announcement of Brock Lesnar re-signing with WWE just prior to WrestleMania. Now-former wrestling fan Michelle Beadle interviewed Lesnar exclusively, as he turned down a potential return to UFC and announced his intentions to re-sign with WWE for three years.
This led to a move that surprised many, as “SportsCenter” showed highlights from WrestleMania as the event concluded. This included moments from Lesnar’s WWE World Heavyweight Championship match, and even made light of Seth Rollins cashing-in. It was seen as a form of crossover between the two promotions, as entertainment is said to be a major initiative of ESPN’s.
Thus far, it is unsure if ESPN will seriously pursue covering “SummerSlam” in Brooklyn.
Editor’s Note
WWE has to make the event worthy of covering, of course. Card will be crucial.
