The Intercontinental Championship will be defended in a ladder match at WrestleMania, sporting potential for a major show-stealing opportunity. Several Superstars have been rumored or confirmed to try and take the title from Bad News Barrett, and it appears another name was added *spoiler* in this week’s edition of “Smackdown.”
Now, another name is throwing his hat into the pile.
Three-time Intercontinental Champion Goldust took to Twitter to voice his interest in the match:
A lot going on with the @WWE #Intercontinental #Title! #3TimeChamp!
— GOLDUST (@Goldust) March 4, 2015
With names still to be confirmed, there is a large possibility Goldust could end up in the match. He had previously been locked in a program with his brother Stardust which many believed would have led to a WrestleMania retirement match, but that appears to be off the table for now.
At “Fastlane,” Goldust rolled up his brother for a quick pin, setting Stardust off. Stardust has since been referred to as his original character Cody Rhodes multiple times by the announce crew.
The 45-year-old Goldust last held the Intercontinental Championship from March 29, 1999 through April 12, 1999. The date he won it is a curious one, as it is also the date of WrestleMania in Santa Clara, California.
Editor’s Note
Wish we’d see Goldust/Stardust once more, but if this is what’s to be, I have no problem with it.
