While TNA may at times struggle to maintain an audience at live events in the United States, there is no doubt about it those in the United Kingdom very much enjoy their wrestling. Whenever the company is holding shows in England or areas nearby, it often draws fairly well with a promising live gate.
As rumors have persisted the company could look more heavily into investing abroad due to this stronger draw, new reports indicate there may be a larger clamp that could jeopardize the company in taking any further steps in that direction.
The Wrestling Observer reports Destination America, which TNA signed a multi-year deal with late last year, does not approve of TNA utilizing the U.K. for tapings. The idea is that, with the network’s name promoting the United States, the majority of the programming should not be taped outside of the U.S.
While there were tapings held in the United Kingdom earlier this year, the network was reportedly only O.K. with such because plans for those shows were made before any broadcast deal was set. The outlet notes Destination America has a large controlling interest in the creative direction of the company as well, which is why Kurt Angle is currently TNA World Heavyweight Champion.
It is also said the station approves of Taryn Terrell as the promotion’s Knockouts Champion.
Editor’s Note
Nothing like the network dictating creative direction, eh? That will surely end well, given its extensive knowledge of booking professional wrestling.
