Last year, Daniel Bryan headlined WrestleMania XXX en route to winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. First, he knocked off Triple H in a heralded-classic, and then finished off Randy Orton and Batista to win the belt.
This year, things are a bit different for Bryan. He spoke with Adelaide Now to discuss WrestleMania and other wrestling-related topics.
Bryan noted his current match on the card was not what he wanted:
“For a year, I had this vision of me wrestling (former UFC champion) Brock Lesnar in the main event for the WWE Championship,” Bryan says.
“But sometimes, when you don’t get what you want, you end up getting something better — like this ladder match.”
He then spoke about his upcoming ladder match for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania:
“I think with the guys we have in that match and the excitement we can generate, we have a real chance of stealing the show.”
Bryan then revealed he has long favored the IC title and has desired to give it relevance:
“As a kid, my favourite wrestlers were always the ones competing for the Intercontinental Championship,” he says.
“They were the best wrestlers in the company, they were the most exciting part of WWE television.
“See, I was never the biggest Hulk Hogan fan and, when kids were talking about him slamming Andre the Giant at WrestleMania III, I was thinking about Randy Savage and Ricky Steamboat.”

Editor’s Note
If this is where WWE sees him as most beneficial, then so be it. He will thrive and help elevate others. The match will steal the show.
