New reports have provided updated news regarding the upcoming season of WWE “Tough Enough” which will air on the USA Network. As previously reported, “Tough Enough” will return to cable television for the first time in four years beginning on June 23.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, casting for the program has begun. He claims the company has been talking to independent wrestlers that they were bringing in for tryouts about applying for “Tough Enough” instead, but that this version of “Tough Enough” will more resemble the 2011 season and not be focused on the latest NXT class, which was previously thought.
Meltzer writes,
“The company is now actively recruiting talent for Tough Enough in June. Calls have been made and negotiations have started. There are somewhat recognizable names that have been recruited.
One European wrestler who was invited to a tryout in London this week noted that the tryout was canceled but they wanted him to apply for Tough Enough. Another wrestler we’re aware of was pretty much promised a slot in the final cast. There are reports that WWE is also working with reality show casting veterans of major shows, including one looking at college and pro athletes.
That seems to tell me the plan for the show from last year, which was to tape in Orlando and use already contracted NXT talent that had not yet made the television show, seems to have changed.”
Editor’s Note:
I’m interested to see who comes out of this season of “Tough Enough” as the winner. We all know how BIG of a superstar the last winner became, right? The star of the 2011 season was “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. Hell, the first person eliminated from that season of “Tough Enough” is the only one that actually has a somewhat successful WWE career going…and Cameron is TERRIBLE.
