A new report from TMZ.com claims that lawyers representing the Ultimate Warrior’s estate has issued “Cease and Desist” letters to hundreds of online merchants. Ultimate Warrior passed away on Tuesday, April 8, and a great number of websites and merchandisers have created and sold Warrior memorabilia since the time of his death. The Warrior camp, with thoughts of supporting Warrior’s family off of officially licensed Warrior materials, hopes to eradicate the non-official merchandise as soon as possible.
Warrior’s marketing company, Ultimate Creations, is the company threatening legal action to any and all websites and merchandisers that are currently selling, or trying to sell, “bootleg” merchandise featuring Warrior’s name, logo (the facepaint), catchphrases, etc. Several t-shirts, pictures, and other materials featuring Warrior’s likeness went online almost instantly following the news of his passing.
Currently, Ultimate Creations has an exclusive contract with World Wrestling Entertainment, and there is a plethora of official Warrior merchandise featured on WWE’s online store, Shop.WWE.com.
Editor’s Note: I’m all for online stores and creative t-shirts, but get permission if you’re using someone’s actual “official logo.” Don’t set yourselves up for failure. Come on son.
