Destination America to Air TNA’s 2014 “Slammiversary” PPV in Place of IMPACT on May 22
Destination America is set to air TNA Wrestling’s 2014 “Slammiversary” Pay-Per-View event on their network in its entirety on May 22. As previously reported, this program will replace “IMPACT WRESTLING” on that evening.
While it was initially believed that Destination America was going to be airing an unnamed TNA “IMPACT PPV” during the time slot, due to the television listing only having that title as what would be airing on May 22, the listing has now been changed and the actual program to be shown during the 8-11 p.m. ET block will be “Slammiversary” from 2014.
Memorial Day weekend is being labeled as the reason why “IMPACT” isn’t airing on the network, as Destination America doesn’t expect a lot of viewers for the show during the holiday weekend. However, TNA is still currently struggling to gain steam in terms of its viewership on the network, regardless of a holiday or not.
Numbers for “IMPACT” have been less than stellar, so much so that it was recently reported that Destination America regrets signing a multi-year deal with TNA Wrestling. TNA President Dixie Carter is also reportedly telling TNA talent to not pay attention to the television numbers, as the office doesn’t want moral in the locker room to get any worse than it already is.
Talent has reportedly been unhappy with how TNA has been running as of late, especially after the canceling of tour in China that was on the horizon. However, TNA is trying to make moves to gain eyes on their product, such as signing Smashing Pumpkins front-man Billy Kurgan as a producer, and Carter attempting to get her own reality show.
