WWE Intercontinental Champion Daniel Bryan Has Surrendered the WWE Intercontinental Championship
During the May 11 edition of “Monday Night Raw,” WWE Intercontinental Champion Daniel Bryan relinquished his title. Bryan, who was previously rumored to be returning to action during WWE “Payback” on May 17, laid down the Intercontinental Championship in the middle of the ring, saying that it deserves to be fought for, and he may never wrestle in a WWE ring again.
Bryan hit the ring to much fanfare in Cincinnati, Ohio, carrying the Intercontinental Championship on his shoulder. He then said after undergoing an MRI, doctors do not know if he’s going to be out-of-action for weeks, months, or forever.
Do to the uncertainty of his absence, Bryan surrendered the Intercontinental Championship, ending his reign effective immediately. Mike Johnson of PWInsider had correctly reported that Bryan would be appearing on the program, but mis-spoke when he said Bryan would be competing at “Payback” on May 17.
Bryan had been removed from active competition from WWE doctors in early April as he suffered an injury overseas. While the company, and Bryan himself, have not issued a statement describing the extent of his injuries, he did note that doctors are unsure of his future.
WrestlingRumors continues to wish Bryan a full and speedy recovery.
