Last week, WWE presented its Crown Jewel pay-per-view from Saudi Arabia in which Brock Lesnar regained the Universal Championship. He won the title after defeating Braun Strowman in what was basically a squash match.
However, the original match was scheduled to be Roman Reigns defending his title against both Lesnar and Strowman in a triple threat match. However, those plans were changed when Reigns had to vacate the championship due to a return of leukemia.
But what was the original plan for the finish of the triple threat match?
According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Reigns was scheduled to defeat both of his challengers and retain his championship. It was at that point that Lesnar was scheduled to leave WWE and return to UFC.
It has been previously reported that due to the Reigns situation, Lesnar has signed a new short-term deal with WWE and will be around through at least WrestleMania 35.
Editor’s Opinion:
This is not a surprise. It’s no secret that Reigns was being groomed to be the face of WWE for the next 5-10 years and having him go over both Strowman and Lesnar would have been a great way to do it.
