The truth comes out. Former WWE referee Earl Hebner has released a memoir, “Earl Hebner: The Official Story”, where he chronicles his life in the wrestling business. He discusses several topics, including the real reason he was fired from WWE.
There was a rumor circulating for years that Hebner was fired because he stole official merchandise and then sold it at his shop. He says that is not true, and explains the story in an interview with Wrestling.co:
He said, “I went and partnered with a guy and the merchandise was bought from the same people that WWF bought them from. But the whole deal was that when Johnny brought — when WCW came in. If you look back, a lot of the agents started disappearing because Johnny wanted to use their agents. And my brother was an agent. And he was Vince’s right-hand man. So the whole thing was a big lie anyway about me doing the t-shirts and all that. I mean, so Johnny fired me and because he wanted to get rid of my brother. That’s how that happened.” Hebner continued, “Why would I give up a $ 250,000-a-year job for a $12 t-shirt? The truth was never told you know, it was all a lie. But you know, there were other places that I went, and I just kept going.”
