It had been previously reported that as of a week ago, Braun Strowman was not medically cleared to compete, despite being advertised to challenge Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship upcoming at the 2019 Royal Rumble pay-per-view event.
According to a report from PWInsider, this it still the case as of today. This may be one of the reasons why he was written out of the match on Raw last night, and will be replaced by Finn Balor.
Naturally, Strowman didn’t take the news well:
Despite not being ready to go, it has also been reported that the plan for the Royal Rumble was to have Balor and Strowman face each other all along. They were going to go with Strowman, but Vince McMahon changed his mind along the way and Balor was selected as the replacement, partially because Lesnar wanted to work with him.
Editor’s Opinion:
As soon as Vince McMahon took him out of the match last night on Raw, my immediate thought was that he was not going to be ready in time for the Rumble. I’m not sure if they will still have them there in some capacity, whether its in the Royal Rumble itself, or simply as a distraction during the show at some point.
