At WrestleMania 31 on March 29 at Levi’s Stadium, “Royal Rumble” winner Roman Reigns challenged Brock Lesnar in the main event for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Neither man emerged victorious, though, as Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to win the gold for the first time in his young career.
According to a report by PWInsider.com, the original plan for Reigns vs. Lesnar was for their bout to clock in at around 35 minutes, including entrances.
Unfortunately, the pay-per-view ran long, thus cutting their match in half. The final time for the in-ring action was roughly 16:43.
There was also set to be a video package for the Bray Wyatt vs. Undertaker match that took place before the main event, but that was cut as well.
Editor’s Note
The Lesnar vs. Reigns match exceeded expectations in a big way. It was stiff, violent, bloody and one hell of a ride. Considering half of it was cut, it’s hard to complain with how things ultimately turned out. It wasn’t the greatest main event in WrestleMania history, but considering the skepticism and doubt surrounding it leading into the event, I can’t find much fault.
