Former WWE superstar Curt Hawkins (now known as Brian Myers on the independent circuit) recently sat down with Alex Obert of Journey of a Frontman to talk wrestling after “House of Hardcore 8” in Philadelphia.
Hawks discussed what it was like training under Bill DeMott, Rey Mysterio’s departure from World Wrestling Entertainment and his former partner Zack Ryder:
Q: Recent news that has everybody talking, what are your thoughts on the Bill Demott controversy?
Myers: “I trained under Bill and he is what he is. He’s a drill sergeant and he’s tough, it takes a lot out of you. I wasn’t there for all the new allegations, so I’m not too sure what happened.”
Q: And of course, the biggest surprise of the night. What was your reaction when you saw Rey Mysterio out there [House of Hardcore 8]?
Myers: “Rey Mysterio is hands down the greatest luchador of all time. If you want to dispute that, tweet me. I don’t think anyone else is comparable. He’s the most successful, he’s the most talented, he is an absolutely special performer. I think it’s a huge loss for WWE and a huge gain for all of us wrestlers that get to be around him and have him on our shows and learn from him and work with him. It’s just a win.”
Q: What did it mean to you that Zack [Ryder] recently had a special moment in the ring by being in the Royal Rumble?
Myers: “I hope the world of him, I’m always pushing for him. He deserves it. He’s a great guy. I don’t think we’d be anywhere without each other. We were very fortunate to find each other and go through this business together. I’m thrilled to see him and I’m glad to see he got the reaction that he got. I always hope for the best.”
