For quite some time, February to be exact, WWE has been planning for Roman Reigns to go up against WWE COO Triple H in a singles match at “SummerSlam.” Previous reports noted that Reigns would battle Randy Orton at “Battleground,” leading up to the encounter with Triple H. In fact, the first advertisements for “Battleground” feature a match between Orton and Reigns.
However, a recent report by F4WOnline states that these matches may be pushed back. The website reports that there has been talk within WWE of having Triple H vs. Roman Reigns occur at “Night of Champions.” In this scenario, Reigns would battle Kane at “Battleground.” Then, at “SummerSlam,” Reigns would get a crack at Orton.
As noted in the past, WWE will be treating “Night of Champions” like a WrestleMania. The “Night of Champions” event will be the first pay-per-view to air on the WWE Network after the first batch of six month subscriptions to the network expire. In an effort to get these people who subscribed early to renew their subscriptions, the match card will be stacked. For one, Brock Lesnar has been heavily rumored to appear at the event. Lesnar will most likely battle John Cena for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at “SummerSlam,” meaning he may be the champ heading into “Night of Champions.”
Editor’s Note
It would not surprise me to see Triple H vs. Roman Reigns pushed back to “Night of Champions” given the importance of the pay-per-view. However, I still expect the two to square off at “SummerSlam.” If WWE wanted to, there could even be a rematch at “Night of Champions.”
