On Wednesday, June 3, for the first time, Destination America aired a three hour block of professional wrestling programming, featuring Total Nonstop Action and Ring of Honor Wrestling. For ROH, this was its debut on national cable television, as in the past, its content could only have been viewed through local syndication. For TNA and its “Impact Wrestling” show, this was its debut on Wednesday nights for Destination America. Previously, since the beginning of 2015, “Impact Wrestling” aired on Friday nights on the channel.
A report from Show Buzz Daily has provided viewership information for the respective Wednesday night debuts for TNA and ROH. The website revealed that in total 273,000 viewers tuned in for the debut edition of ROH programming on Destination America. Its first broadcast at 8 p.m. EST garnered 163,000 viewers, while a replay at 11 p.m. EST obtained 110,000 viewers. When airing on syndication multiple times throughout a given week, ROH programming averaged about 500,000 total viewers spread across the week.
On the other hand, according to the website’s report, “Impact Wrestling” was seen by a total of 369,000 viewers on Wednesday night. Its first run, beginning at 9 pm. EST, received 297,000 viewers. Later on, beginning at midnight, the replay obtained 72,000 viewers. These numbers are down from last week’s showing of “Impact Wrestling” on Destination America. The Friday, May 29, edition of the program drew in 413,000 viewers upon its first broadcast. This figure tops this week’s total mark, without having to factor in replay viewership.
Editor’s Note
All in all, these are some pretty strong numbers on ROH’s side. As for TNA, the sharp decrease is probably not welcome news.
