Long-time WWE ring announcer Lilian Garcia underwent surgery on April 10 to repair a torn meniscus. Since then, she has been rehabbing the injury, remaining off WWE programming and its mid-April tour of Europe. On “Monday Night Raw,” Eden has taken over Garcia’s ring announcing duties. In turn, NXT ring announcer JoJo has been working “Smackdown” tapings in place of Eden.
On Friday, April 17, WWE.com published a piece, updating the WWE Universe on Lilian Garcia’s health following knee surgery. The piece contains numerous quotes from Garcia, who estimates that she will be sidelined from ring announcing for about five more weeks.
Lilian Garcia discussed the unusual circumstances surrounding her injury, and her response to surgery:
“It was one of those crazy things where I was just packing, I got up and I felt the knee [go]. I felt it right away, I told [WWE officials] about it and [they] said, ‘Let’s keep an eye on it.’”
“Surgery went great. I am actually kind of ahead of schedule, which is great.”
Garcia was also proud of the work done by Eden and JoJo during her absence:
“I’m very proud of Eden and JoJo, and I think they’re doing a great job. As we say, #GirlPower!”
