Through the past couple weeks of WWE programming, WWE seems to have built towards a multi-team match for the WWE Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 31. It appears likely that Cesaro and Tyson Kidd will defend their gold against multiple teams, including The Usos, The New Day, and Los Matadores.
WWE recently published an article on WWE.com regarding potential plans for the WWE Tag Team Championship at “The Show of Shows.” Within the story, there was a tease towards The New Day bringing back the “Freebird Rule,” should they capture the tag team titles at WrestleMania. The Freebird Rule would see the three members of The New Day, Kofi Kingston, Big E, and Xavier Woods, work interchangeably with the tag titles.
Below is a snippet from the WWE.com piece:
“A strong case could be made for a number of duos, including three of the teams who competed in an Eight-Man Tag Team Match along with the titleholders on the March 12 edition of SmackDown — The Usos, Los Matadores and The New Day. Speaking of The New Day, if these fun-loving Superstars were ever to claim the WWE Tag Team Titles, could we see the revival of the ‘Freebird Rule’?”
Editor’s Note
If The New Day had enough momentum, and were booked properly from the start, I would love to see the group bring back the Freebird Rule. However, I doubt the trio wins the WWE Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania.
