On Feb. 24, at 9 a.m. EST, WWE launched the WWE Network to the WWE Universe. While there have been some bugs and problems thus far with WWE Network, the kinks are expected to be fixed in the near future. David Bixenspan and Chris “Mookie” Harrington, known for posting WWE statistics in the past, recently published a piece regarding their estimates on how many people signed up for WWE Network on its launch day.
The two note that from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST, WWE included order numbers in confirmation emails to those who signed up for WWE Network. With sequential numbers that he collected on social media, Harrington estimates there were 130,000 sign-ups for WWE Network during the eight hour timeframe. However, after 4 p.m. EST, WWE stopped including the confirmation numbers in its emails to new subscribers, making it more difficult to accurately estimate the subscriptions from then-on.
Harrington also noted that based on WWE’s rate in that eight hour span, the previous data would estimate that 250,000 people signed up on launch day, in addition to however many people signed up prior to 8:15 a.m. EST. Harrington’s educated guess puts the number of day-one subscribers somewhere between 250,000 to 350,000 people. As WWE mentioned before the WWE Network launched, it would need one million subscribers in order to break even.
