There has been a lot of speculation on Andy Kaufman recently due to his brother, Michael, claiming that the comedian was still alive. According to MSN.com, at the annual Andy Kaufman Awards in New York City, Michael informed the audience that he believes his brother faked his own death.
Michael claims to have found an essay written by his late brother, which detailed how he planned to pull off the hoax. He went on to state that a letter instructed him to go to a specific restaurant on Christmas Eve of 1999. There, an anonymous man handed him a note which Michael would read to the New York City audience. Michael went on to say that Andy allegedly wrote, “everything was great in his life, and he just wanted to get away from being Andy Kaufman.”
Today, the fourteenth of November, CNN caught up with Andy’s long-time rival and current WWE commentator, Jerry “The King” Lawler.
Lawler said the following on the situation:
“I would like nothing better than to know that Andy was still alive and been with us all this time. But like anybody else, I really don’t know any more than what I’ve heard. It could be a great hoax in his honor, dreamed up by his friend Bob Zamuda and his brother, Michael. That would be something that would be in keeping with Andy’s tradition, but who’s to say. It could really be legit. There should be a WrestleMania rematch between Andy and The King. We could rekindle the feud with no problem.”
