When WWE hosted its biggest event of 2015, WrestleMania 31, the company did everything in its power to prevent the sale of unlicensed and counterfeit merchandise in the Santa Clara area. WWE went as far to file a lawsuit to prevent such sales. Within the lawsuit, WWE revealed its full schedule of events through March 28, 2016.
According to PWInsider, the lawsuit notes that the 2016 “Royal Rumble” pay-per-view will take place on Jan. 24. It will take place in Orlando, Florida at the Amway Center. The following night, WWE will air the Jan. 25 edition of “Monday Night Raw” in Miami. A “Smackdown” episode will then be taped on Tuesday, Jan. 26, in Tampa Bay.
This will be the first time in 10 years that the “Royal Rumble” comes to Florida. In 2006, the “Royal Rumble” took place in Miami at the American Airlines Arena. At the event, Rey Mysterio won the 30-man Royal Rumble, setting a record for the longest time in a Royal Rumble match, lasting more than 62 minutes.
For the past two years, the “Royal Rumble” emanated from Pennsylvania. In 2014, Pittsburgh held the event at the Consol Energy Center. There, Batista won the Royal Rumble to the dismay of the crowd. Similarly, a year later, in Philadelphia at the Wells Fargo Center, Roman Reigns won the battle royal to an unfavorable reaction.
Editor’s Note
Orlando could definitely be another extremely hot crowd for the “Royal Rumble.” With the event in Florida, I wonder if NXT will get a huge spotlight during Rumble weekend.
