Although Henry was not successful in the match, the promo was a career highlight because it brought to light the great career he’s had, and it felt genuine.
Recently, Mark Henry spoke with Rich Brennan about the “Royal Rumble”. Henry took the discussion very seriously and discussed his retirement with certainty. Henry said that this could be his last “Royal Rumble” match of his career and claimed that he’d prefer to hang up with boots at Wrestlemania.
Below is what Mark Henry said about next week’s “Royal Rumble” and a possible retirement match:
“Of course, this may be my last Royal Rumble match. I’ve done everything there is to do, except winning a Royal Rumble match. Man, I can’t leave it up for somebody else to interpret it. I gotta say it. I got to interpret it to the fans, and just for my legacy. I wanna win. I wanna win. I wanna go to Wrestlemania. I want to have a match that I can end my career on and live up to my expectations that I’ve always set for myself. I’m just hoping for the best, but more than anything, I have to make it happen.
You talk about ending your career, to be able to end and take my boots off in the middle of the ring at Wrestlemania. There is nothing better than that. Outside of my kids being born, my Wrestlemania experiences are the ones that move me the most. I’m a little touched right now, but it’s what we do it for. You know, we don’t do it just for ourselves. We do it for the accomplishments, so that other people, other greats, other legends will see us and say, “Hey, that’s a champion right there. I mean, it don’t get more serious than that.”
