That’s new. Titles are some of the most important things in all of wrestling, as you will see them coming and going in one way or another time after time. That can make for some interesting situations, as fans can see major changes taking place, which can offer a fresh path forward. Occasionally the title itself will change rather than the champion and that is what we saw this week.

This week’s AEW Dynamite opened with new International Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman talking about winning the title. Friedman spoke about how the fans loved the title for the sake of all of the international stars involved. Therefore, Friedman felt that he should turn the title into a title more closely aligned with himself, causing him to unveil the American Title as a replacement. He then dropped the International Title in a trashcan, with former champion Will Ospreay pulling it out later.

Opinion: That’s about as Friedman of a thing as you could ask for and I’m in no way surprised. He’s one of the bigger villains around at the moment and taking something that the fans like and changing it for his own mindset is right in line for him. I could go for seeing where this is going, which includes a rematch between Friedman and Ospreay next month at All In.
