Welcome? There have been all kinds of wrestlers throughout WWE’s history and several of them are fondly remembered long after their time with the company ends. Those wrestlers will occasionally show up elsewhere for a special cameo, some of which come in rather big spots. That was the situation this weekend, as a former WWE Superstar made a surprise appearance elsewhere.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Kind Words: AEW’s Will Ospreay Praises WWE Star, Criticizes Company’s Booking Of Him

Gangrel made a surprise appearance this weekend at AEW Double Or Nothing, helping Adam Copeland fight off the House Of Black in Copeland’s match against Malakai Black. Gangrel came up from a hole in the ring and spat his trademark red mist before helping Copeland with the brawl. There is nothing to suggest that this will be anything but a one off appearance. Copeland has mentioned trying to get Gangrel to appear in WWE but being told no.

You might remember him. Check out Gangrel’s cameo and his time in WWE:

Opinion: This is the kind of cameo that makes for a nice moment, as Gangrel is someone fans are going to remember and he ties into the story. It’s nice to see Copeland do something cool for an old friend, who gets a nice bit of spotlight, even if it’s just for one night. You don’t get to see something like this very often and it worked well for everyone involved.
