In a surprising move, TNA Wrestling have today signed a deal with World Wrestling Entertainment that will see the company take control of the World Championship Wrestling name.
The deal, signed today by TNA President Dixie Carter, will see TNA Wrestling rebranded as World Championship Wrestling, and assume control of all associated copyrights and trademarks. The company’s flagship television broadcast, currently airing as ‘Impact Wrestling’, will be rebranded as ‘WCW Impact’.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for us” said Carter. “Since it’s inception, we have worked hard to establish the TNA brand but the WCW name and legacy is already a household name and we feel this is just what we need to take our brand of wrestling to the next level”.
Sting, who faced Triple H at this past Sunday’s WrestleMania, was quoted as saying “I’m delighted. The two places where I made my name are coming together to create one unique home of wrestling.”
World Wrestling Entertainment did not offer comment on the deal.
