“Monday Night Raw” often finds itself some stiff competition during the fall season with the combination of the NFL alongside the Major League Baseball playoffs. But WWE will now have to go face-to-face with an even bigger force as it prepares for its “Fastlane” pay-per-view in February.
According to a press release from CBS, the Feb. 15, 2016 episode of “RAW” will go up against The Grammy Awards.
“Music’s Biggest Night, the 58th Annual GRAMMY Awards, will return to Los Angeles’ Staples Center on Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, and will be broadcast in high-definition and 5.1 surround sound on the CBS Television Network from 8–11:30 p.m. (ET/PT). The eligibility year for the 58th Annual GRAMMY Awards is Oct. 1, 2014, to Sept. 30, 2015.”
As noted above, the awards will run the entire duration of “RAW,” and in this case, a go-home episode before a pay-per-view. This past year’s awards, held on a Sunday night, drew more than 27 million viewers.
It is possible WWE may offer the month for free in order to gain new subscribers on the network, looking to garner them for “Fastlane.” This is what it did for the month of May this year, which also included adding an additional pay-per-view on the last evening of the month.
Editor’s Note
Well, I don’t think it will matter all that much in the end. The awards are terrible, and were only salvaged by the high voltage rock n’ roll brought on by the thunder from down under this year.
