Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho is a WWE Superstar, former WCW wrestler, lead singer of the rock band Fozzy, accomplished author and television star.

While Jericho was born in New York, he was raised a Canadian and began his pro wrestling career training with the likes of Lance Storm, Edge, Christian, and Rhino all over the Canadian independent scene. He has also wrestled internationally in Mexico, Germany and Japan, and briefly for Paul Heyman’s Extreme Championship Wrestling in 2006, winning the ECW Television title.

Before arriving in WWE, Jericho wrestled for WCW (and briefly New Japan Pro Wrestling) where he gained mainstream exposure and became a four-time WCW Cruiserweight Champion, working programs with Chris Benoit, Rey Mysterio, Eddie Guerrero, and many more. He also worked a long feud with Dean Malenko, dubbing himself the “Man of 1,004 Holds” and both won and lost the Cruiserweight title to him over the course of their program.

In 1999, Jericho’s contract with WCW expired and he made his debut with WWE for the first time, using the hype of the new millennium and the “Y2K scare” to promote his arrival. After a large clock counted down the time to “Y2J” on August 9th, Chris made his way to the entrance ramp and cut a promo on The Rock, in what is still considered one of the greatest wrestling debuts of all time. His first major feud was over the Intercontinental Championship, held at the time by Chyna. The two worked a program together as co-champions, until losing the belt to Kurt Angle. At WrestleMania 2000, Chris Jericho had his first big match with Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit, walking out the European Champion – although he lost the title just one day later to Eddie Guerrero, when Chyna turned on him.

Over the course of a year, Jericho had six pay-per-view matches with Chris Benoit – mostly over the Intercontinental Championship – that were broken up by an upset feud with then-WWE Champion Triple H. Between 2001 and 2002, Jericho had a large role in the WCW/ECW Invasion, where he became the WCW World Champion – somewhat ironically – for the first time, by defeating The Rock. The two continued their feud throughout the entire angle, after which Jericho defeated both The Rock and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin in the same night, to become both World Champion and WWE Champion  This distinction made Chris the first ever Undisputed WWE Champion, a title that he still gloats about to this day.

Since then Jericho has come, gone and come back again to WWE, becoming a 9-time Intercontinental Champion, a 3-time World Heavyweight Champion, and a 7-time Tag Team Champion with five different partners. Some of his most notable opponents of the past decade include CM Punk, John Cena, Shawn Michaels and Edge. Through the years, Jericho has taken several periods of absence from the WWE, mostly to tour with his rock band Fozzy, with their latest album “Sin and Bones” debuting on the Billboard Top 200 and garnering critical praise. He has also written two autobiographies chronicling his journey to the WWE, and then his time spent in WWE and the start of Fozzy. Jericho also competed on popular reality show Dancing With the Stars, where he lasted six weeks alongside partner Cheryl Burke. He is the current host of “Robot Combat League” on the SyFy channel.
